My comment: There is no need to read the rest of (1) or (2).

(1) Keith Bradsher, Chinese Auto Buyers Grow Hungry for Larger Cars; Concern in Beijing with regulating fuel economy. New York Times, Apr 22, 2013
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/2 ... rd-larger-cars.html
("Gone are the days when buyers in China, the world’s largest car market since 2009, mostly purchased fuel-sipping compacts and subcompacts. Their shift toward larger and ever-more-numerous vehicles is not only driving up China’s oil import bill and contributing to pollution but is also fattening automakers’ profits")

(2) Colum Murphy, BMW Warns China Is Cooling. Wall Street Journal, Apr 22, 2013.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB ... 36651160952398.html

first two paragraphs:

"BMW AG said it expects slower sales growth in China this year as premium-car makers grapple with a slowdown in economic growth and intensifying competition in one of their most lucrative markets.

The German auto maker said at the Shanghai auto show over the weekend that it expects China sales growth in the upper single digits. BMW's sales in China increased about 40% last year to roughly 326,000 vehicles.

(3) Colum Murphy, Yoree Koh and Mike Ramsey, Japan's Car Makers Hit the Gas in China; Toyota, Nissan and Honda were losing market share before Tokyo and Beijing's territorial dispute. Wall Street Journal, Apr 22, 2013.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB ... 36133332632790.html

two consecutive paragraphs:

"Japanese brands held 15% of China's market last year, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. As recently as last July their share was 20%.

"But Japanese car companies had begun to decline even before the island dispute. They held 28% of China's market in 2007 but only 23% in 2010, according to consulting firm Deloitte, which based its estimates on CAAM data.
