Jeré Longman, 林书豪,绚烂之后渐归平淡. 纽约时报中文网, Apr 24, 2013
http://cn.nytimes.com/article/world/2013/04/24/c24lin/

, which is translated from

Jeré Longman, From Phenom to Everyday NBA Player. New York Times, Apr 22, 2013.

two consecutive paragraphs:

"Lin has essentially maintained his averages of last season. His scoring is down slightly, to 13.4 points a game from 14.6. His assist average is virtually identical (6.1, from 6.2), his 3-point percentage is higher, and his turnover rate is lower.

"In December, against San Antonio, Lin matched his career high with 38 points. A week later, he returned to Madison Square Garden with 22 points and 9 assists in a victory over the Knicks that aroused flashbacks of Linsanity.

My comment:
(1) The title of Chinese translation does not do justice to Mr Lin. The English-language report is terrific--and balanced: Yes, people pays less attention to him, but he still scores a lot, helping bring his team Houston Rockets to the final.
(2) I know nothing about sport, including basketball.
(3) Jeré and Jeremy are Finnish and English variants, respectively, of Jeremiah, a prophet in Old Testament.
(4) Kevin McHale

(5) The report quotes Mr McHale as saying, “Everything he [Lin] did was full-bore.”
(a) full-bore (adj)

(b) etymology:

William Safire, Full Bore, Small Bore. New York Times Magazine, Jan 13, 1997
http://www.nytimes.com/1997/01/1 ... ore-small-bore.html
("Full-bore, hyphenated when used to modify a noun, is a Britishism that Americans are adopting (like not to worry and sendup). Curiously, it is defined in an American dictionary, the Random House unabridged, but not yet in the Oxford English Dictionary")

* send up (vt; First Known Use 1852): "to make fun of : PARODY"

* send-up (n; First Known Use 1958): "PARODY"

(7) The report mentions "Wea H LEE, a Taiwanese-American who is the chairman of the Houston-based Southern News Group, which owns a digital television station and publishes The Southern Chinese Daily News."

(8) The report remarks, "As an NBA point guard, Lin, 24, is not yet fully formed."

That means Mr Lin is still a professional player in the making.
(9) The report states, "Mostly, though, Lin has concerned himself with the workaday chore of every young player."

workaday (adj):
"1: of, relating to, or suited for working days <workaday clothes>
2: ORDINARY, PROSAIC"

(10) James Harden

(11) The report quotes Lin as saying, "'I look at this as my journey, and it’s just the beginning. God willing, hopefully this will be the worst player that I am for the next 8 to 10 years until my body can’t hold up anymore."

The "worst player" means hopefully he will improve going forward.
(12) The report comments "the Rockets’ media relations staff once found a Chinese reporter trying to watch a practice by crouching furtively behind a large, inflatable exercise ball."
