My comment:
(a) Only read about a third of the text--from the paragraph whose first word is “Naturally” to the paragraph whose first clause is “There are two Taiwan-specific ETFs.” The rest is familiar.
(b) Salaried people in Taiwan (back when I was there)  felt they were oppressed and paid most taxes and that proprietors from peddlers to doctors reported little income.
(c) The per capita GDPs for Taiwan and Germany are PPP, rather than according to exchange rates. Still CIA World Factbook assigns Taiwan’s only somewhat lower than Germany’s.
(d) Taipei Stock Exchange “happens to be the world's seventh largest in terms of turnover; ahead of London, Tokyo and Hong Kong.”

After reading the definition, go on to “For example.”
