, which is translated from

Ed Crooks and Anjli Raval, US Poised to Become World’s Leading Liquid Petroleum Producer. Financial Times, Sept 29, 2014

the first three paragraphs:

"The US is overtaking Saudi Arabia to become the world’s largest producer of liquid petroleum * * *

"US production of oil and related liquids such as ethane and propane was neck-and-neck with Saudi Arabia in June and again in August at about 11.5m barrels a day, according to the International Energy Agency, the watchdog backed by rich countries.

"With US production continuing to boom, its output is set to exceed Saudi Arabia’s this month or next for the first time since 1991.

Note:
(a) The English-language report, but NOT the translation, carried a graphic, comparing US and Saudi Arabia in production of liquid petroleum from 2000 to 2014 (inclusive); the caption of graphic said, “Production of crude, condensate and natural gas liquids[;] Million barrels per day]"--with "Source: IEA."

(b) All right. But what is “liquid petroleum” any way? Is there a difference between that and crude oil?  The short answer to the second question is yes. (i) to (iv) says the same thing; (iii) and (iv) are based on the Financial Times report.
(i) petroleum
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum
(The name petroleum covers both naturally occurring unprocessed crude oil and petroleum products that are made up of refined crude oil)
(ii) crude oil. Encyclopaedia Britannica, undated
www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/144618/crude-oil
(crude oil, liquid petroleum that is found accumulated in various porous rock formations in Earth’s crust and is extracted for burning as fuel or for processing into chemical products)
(iii) Robert S Echelman, US Set to Pass Saudi Arabia as World’s Largest Liquid Petroleum Producer. VICE News, Oct 1, 2014
news.vice.com/article/us-set-to-pass-saudi-arabia-as-worlds-largest-liquid-petroleum-producer
(“In August, the US and Saudi Arabia produced roughly the same amount of crude oil and liquid petroleum products, about 11.5 million barrels per day [based on FT]. Liquid petroleum is a category comprised of crude oil and nature gas liquids, like propane and butane, used as heating fuels, and ethane, an ingredient in plastic bags”)

first two paragraphs:

“The US is on track to become the world’s leading liquid petroleum producer. According to IEA, domestic production of oil was about 11.5m barrels a day in August, and the Financial Times reports that we are likely to surpass Saudi Arabia’s production for the first time in 23 years.

“In fact, we may also catch up to Saudi Arabia and Russia on crude production alone by 2020. Perhaps not surprising given production has already risen by over 60 percent during the past six years.

* There is no need to read the rest of (iii) and (iv). Russia is currently behind Saudi Arabia in crude production.
