Eight out of ten cars of the Toki 325 (a 200 Series Shinkansen) derailed on the Joetsu Shinkansen 上越 新幹線 line between Nagaoka Station in Nagaoka 長岡市 and Urasa Station in Yamato[-machi 大和町]; no injuries were reported among the 155 passengers. "此前有网络传闻称,项炜伊获救的功臣——温州特警支队长邵曳戎因拒绝将车厢吊下铁路桥而遭到处分。温州当局对此作出了否认,邵曳戎也对媒体否认了有关说法。

"邵曳戎表示,虽然生命探测仪显示车厢里已经没有幸存者,但是仪器并非万能,而2岁的项炜伊当时被压在其他死者遗体以及碎铁片之下,因此没有被生命探测仪发现。

Quote:

"But some longtime observers say the criticism unleashed by the train crash is unprecedented in its scope and fervor, because the incident has hit home in a nation where rail is by far the most common means of long-distance transport and where the ruling Communist Party has relentlessly trumpeted the high-speed rail system. 'Trains touch on everyone's lives,' said Hu Yong, a professor of journalism and Internet expert at Peking University.

"The government, which routinely censors online criticism and limits reporting on sensitive events, so far hasn't clamped down hard on comments on the train crash.

My comment: There is no need to read the rest. In case you do, the print edition stopped at this sentence:

"'The Ministry of Railways is so embattled that, really, who wants to stand by them at this point?" said David Bandurski, a researcher with Hong Kong University's China Media Project, who compiled a list of Weibo criticism over the train disaster.

The online version has additional 4 1/2 paragraphs, whose last paragraph states, "The 21st Century Business Herald, among other Chinese commercial newspapers, has dug up details of the high-speed rail network's signaling system."

(3) Simon Rabinovitch, Delays Hit China's Bullet Trains; Moe power losses follow fatal collision; Failures cast doubt on network's quality. Financial Times, July 27, 2011.

(a) The first two paragaphs:

"China's high-speed rail network was hit with fresh problems on Monday when 20 bullet trains on the new lline between Beijing and Shanghai were delayed for more than three hours because of a power failure, just days after power problems caused a deadly crash.

"It was at least the fifth such failure since the line opened a month ago, and a stark reminder of the quality concerns surrounding China's rush to build the world's biggest high-speed rail system.

(b) Table in print:

"10,000km  Length of high-speed track built by China
47 Years Japan's [Shinkasen] network has run with no collision deaths
3.8%  Drop in CSR shares, after 8.9% fall on Monday [July 25]"

(c) My comment: There is no need to read the rest.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/27/world/asia/27china.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=wenzhou&st=cse

Quote: "Several rail experts have said they doubt that lightning was the sole cause of the crash. They questioned why safety mechanisms failed to warn or slow the second train. 'This is extremely rare,' said Vukan R. Vuchic, a rail expert at the University of Pennsylvania. “'I’ve never heard of lightning doing that, but if it did, everything else would stop too. And the signal system should keep trains at a safe distance.'

My comment:
(a) Maybe you want to read teh entire report.

(c) The report states, "A railway communications officer, identified only as Mr. Liu, told The Beijing Times that after the accident, he was sent to check the communications system of the first train, which was working, he said, raising the question of where the communication breakdown occurred."
