The popular cash-for-clunkers government program, which gave U.S. consumers discounts of up to $4,500 for a new-vehicle purchase, will end Monday, Aug. 24, at 8 p.m. After that, dealers are not permitted to make any more sales of cars with clunker rebates.

今年本来就打算把我的SUV升级一下。正好赶上政府的"cash for clunkers"计划(wikimedia对该计划的介绍)，就打算顺道儿把我的轿车也更新了。如果只更新SUV，看中的新SUV和要trade-in的SUV耗油量差不多，不能享受政府补助。所以我就trade in SUV去买一辆轿车，获得政府补助的3500刀。然后再trade in 现在的轿车买想要的SUV。由于我无论如何都要升级自己的SUV,这样"cash for clunkers"计划对我的净效用就是得了3500刀去更新了自己的轿车。3500刀补助对于一辆3万刀左右的轿车而言还是很有吸引力的。尽管原来没有更新轿车的打算，还是决定响应政府号召了。

偷偷看了一下上个月美国汽车销售情况。发现不仅轿车销售量大增，SUV和轻型卡车的销售也有反弹。看来钻这个空子的应该不是就我一个。如果你打算今年更新SUV，不妨和我一样把轿车也一起换了。不过要抓紧时间了，"cash for clunkers"计划的预算估计撑不过9月份了。
