My comment:
(a) Read either, not both.
(b) To me as an outsider, what is the problem? It is no doubt that Shaanxi discriminates. But why does the student react as if it is the end of her world? Can't she be a teacher in provinces that does not discriminate based on height, such as her home province Quizhou?
