(a) Brown University
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_University
(1764- ; tab;e: Mascot  Bruno the [brown] Bear; The Brown family "were instrumental in moving the college [Rhode Island College (1764–1804)] to Providence, constructing its first building, and securing its endowment [So the college was renamed]. * * * In 1971, Brown's coordinate women's institution, Pembroke College, was fully merged into the university" and became coeducational)

Italian-English dictionary:
* bruno (adjective masculine" "(dark) brown"

(b)
(i) The top photo is the cover. However, in the above link, the words are not on the cover. Instead the words on the cover are: "On Fire[.] Chance Emerson '24 has already played for thousands [of people]. He's just warming up. PAGE 26"
(ii) "Chance Emerson '24" means this gentleman is an undergraduate, class of 2024.

The following are four articles worth reading.

(1) Noble Brigham '24, PhD Level Punches; Neuroscience meets boxing.
https://www.brownalumnimagazine. ... oscience-boxing-phd

Note: "neuroscience student Hannah Doyle '26 PhD, makes the trek from Providence to North Attleboro, Mass * * * Doyle's a competitive boxer, recently winning the Southern New England sub-novice Golden Gloves Championship for her weight class."
(a) The Irish surname Doyle is "shortened Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Dubhghaill 'descendant of Dubhghall' a personal name composed of the elements dubh 'black' + gall 'stranger.' "
(i) The dubh usually means black HAIR.
(ii) Compare: The Irish surnames Dunn or its variant Dunne is "shortened Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Duinn [or] Ó Doinn ‘descendant of Donn’ a byname meaning 'brown-haired' or 'chieftain.' "
(b) All PhD programs in the United States need to both do research and write thesis. There is no guarantee that when a candidate can graduated, though MD/phD combined programs commonly takes seven to eight years (four years for medical school and 3-4 years for PhD.

So I go to home page for Brown University Neuroscience Graduate Program (1986- ). At the top horizontal bar, click "For Prospective Students." In the new page, there is FAQ. Click it and the new page statres
"[Q:] Is there an application fee?
[A:] The application fee is $75. However, US Citizens or permanent residents who can demonstrate either financial need or participation in certain specialized programs may apply for an application waiver.
* * *

* * *
[Q:] How long does it take to complete the PhD degree?

(c) North Attleborough, Massachusetts
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Attleborough,_Massachusetts
(a town which is the northern neighbor of, and was once part of City of Attleboro (the town seceded); section  2 Geography: "The town is located 16 miles (26 km) north of Providence, Rhode Island, 38 miles (61 km) southwest of Boston and 42 miles (68 km) southeast of Worcester
Massachusetts"
(d)
(i) Golden Gloves
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gloves
("annual competitions of amateur boxing in the United States"
(ii) amateur boxing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amateur_boxing
(section 2 Competition:
Championships are usually divided into the following age-limited subcategories: Senior, Youth, Junior, Cadet
The following ring-experience-oriented divisions are usually represented at tournaments: Open, Novice, Sub-novice")

Neither category is explained.
(iii) FAQs. USA Boxing Metro, undated
https://usaboxingmetro.com/faqs/

(2) Jane Sasseen, Running from the Bear; Douglas Diamond '75 compares bank runs to a bear encounter gone bad—flee and you're f@#%ed. His analysis helped save the US economy in 2008 and won him a Nobel Prize last year.
https://www.brownalumnimagazine. ... nning-from-the-bear

Excerpt in the window of print: "If we both run, the bear will chase us.' And in that situation, he adds, 'I don't have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun you."

Note
(a) He is Jewish. People surnamed Diamond, Gold, or Silver are Jewish.
(b) My interpretation of the quotation is that in a bank run, I need to outrun you to get my money back.
(c) "The Nobel committee honored the pair [Bernanke, Diamond], along with Diamond's coauthor Philip Dybvig, for groundbreaking work from the early 1980s that shed new light on the role of banks in the economy—why they’re essential, but also why they’re so vulnerable to failure and what can be done to keep them out of trouble."

Philip H Dybvig
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_H._Dybvig
("He is the Boatmen's Bancshares Professor of Banking and Finance at the Olin Business School of Washington University in St. Louis")
(d) "While still a senior [at Brown], he [Diamond] took an advanced money and banking class designed for second year PhD students. Boston University's King, then working on his doctorate, was in that class. * * * After Brown, he earned a PhD in economics from Yale before joining the faculty of the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business in 1979, where he has taught since."

When I read the first sentence in the quotation, I was confused: How come King met Diamond. After I reached the secobd sentence in the quotation, I realized that Diamond eared a bachlor's from Brown and left, never went back. King got a PhD in ecpnomics from Broiwn. And that was how they met -- in Brown.
