Amina Khan, The taming of pigs: DNA sheds light on farming; Today’s swine
in China are traced back 8,000 years to the same region, revealing clues
about animal husbandry and human migration. Los Angeles Times, Apr. 19, 2010.

My comment:
(a) Summary: People in ancient China--as well as India, Southeast Asia and
Taiwan--independently domesticated pigs.
(b) I have not read the research report carefully. But

Jared Diamond, Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies.     W.
W. Norton (publisher), 1997.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns,_Germs,_and_Steel

indicates archaeological evidence that ancient Taiwanese, with pigs in tow,
populated Pacific islands. I am eager to know if archaeological evidence
stands up against scrutiny of genetics of pigs (besides of humans, the
latter being in progress).
