"It is a standing joke among Chinese travellers that many products snapped up abroad bear 'Made in China' labels. But there is some sense to this seeming madness. Thanks to hefty taxes and customs duties, European brands are routinely 40% more expensive back home. In China they are also quite likely to be fakes.

(ii) This article was most shocking to me. When I was in junior high school in Taiwan (equivalent to middle school in US), I learned of this guy and title of the poem. Almost everybody in Taiwan heard of the first verse of the poem 9and nothing else). I did not discuss with others, for it was so obvious to me: I always thougth the Cabridge in the poem referred to the one in Massachusetts (and that he visited in Harvard)!  It never occur to me that it could be the one in England. For decades, I alwyas wondered why those Chinese who came to US in the turn of Twentieth century never mentioned racial discrimination, such as if they might had to use a bath room or toilet for blacks or colored people.
