In Taiwan, when a big wig has a sexual partner and pries him or her with luxuries, the pronunciation is 包飼 in Taiwanese language/ dialect. Often, though, the written form is 包養 (which cannot be pronounced in Taiwanese, as the language does not have 養.

I prefer 包飼 or 包養 to 包二奶, because the latter implies the sexual partner is a woman, which is not necessarily true.

(1) Two weeks ago, the staid New York Times Magazine (published every Sunday) had a lengthy report on this topic. Basically, the report discussed the www.seekingarrangement.com website.

Ruth Padawer, Keeping Up With Being Kept. New York Times Magazine, Apr. 12, 2009.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/12/magazine/12sugardaddies-t.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=seeking%20arrangement&st=cse

Note: The one "being kept" is the sexual partner I refer to in the opening paragraph. To keep up means to keep abreast with, to keep somebody up to day.

My comment:
(a) In web page 1 of this report: "In B. K., she gets that in the form of $100 or $150 stuffed in her bag each time they meet." The money is too little, because if one hires a prostitute, it will probably cost that amount, without affection!

(b) In web page 3: "Legally, at least, they are right [that there is a difference between 'sugar' and prostitution]; since the 1970s, courts have ruled that as long as the woman is paid for some service besides sex — housecleaning, companionship — the arrangement is not the equivalent of prostitution."

See how advanced American judicial system is! In Taiwan, we imported from Japan a term "援助交易" ("援交" for short) where one provides money and the other provides sex--and possibly something else. Unfortunately, police in Taiwan , instead of spending time on major crimes, ensnares the sex providers, calling them prostitutes.

(c) The report states that in this web site, there are man seeking man, wealthy woman seeking man to provide sex and so on. That is why I choose not to fall into stereotype and eschew 包二奶.

(2) The same newspaper had a blog about this web site a few months ago.

Catherine Rampell, Sugar Daddy Economics. New York Times blog, Dec 2, 2008.

(3) The founder of the web site at issue, has just released a book.

Brandon Wade, Seeking Arrangement: The Definitive Guide to Sugar Daddy and Mutually Beneficial Relationships. Apr. 13, 2009.
http://www.amazon.com/Seeking-Arrangement-Definitive-Beneficial-Relationships/dp/0979424569/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240770500&sr=1-1
http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/02/sugar-daddy-economics/?scp=3&sq=seeking%20arrangement&st=cse

(4) In fact, if you go to the web site, there is a button "Media" in the horizontal bar above. Click the button, and one will find all media reports on this web site.

(5) Good luck. I read many Chinese are extremely rich, earning $200,000 a year and more.
