The following allude to Taiwan in passing. (4) has several paragraphs, so I
can not possibly copy them here, to avoid confusion. (1) and (4) each have a
photo related to Taiwan that accompanied the report.
(1) Beth J. Harpaz, Airport scenes: Giant crab, Hello Kitty; Looking for
something to distract from the worries and waiting? A few airports offer
unique attractions. Associated Press, Dec. 24, 2009.

("In Taipei, Taiwan, the Taoyuan Airport has an entire gate area designed
with a Hello Kitty motif, from the chairs and wall decorations to a children
's play area and shop.")
(2) Alana Semuels, Hawaii is far from an economic paradise; The plunge in
tourism has resulted in soaring unemployment and home foreclosures, a
shortened school year and an exodus from the state. Some residents blame the
visiting President Obama. Los Angeles Times, Jan. 2, 2010.

Quote:
"But there's nothing on the horizon to replace tourism any time soon. Even
though signs are emerging that more Americans will start traveling again in
2010, some Hawaiians are giving up on paradise for good. In 2009, more
residents left Hawaii than moved here for the first time in a decade,
according to census data.
"Sonia Grimme, co-owner of Surf and Sand, a beachwear shop on the Big Island
, is thinking about moving back to her native Taiwan with her husband and 12
-year-old son. She's worried that her son isn't getting the education he
needs in Hawaii; he now stays home and plays video games on furlough Fridays
. 'The system is broken here,' she said. 'He can get a much better education
in Taiwan.'
My comment: I assume Ms. Sonia Grimme is a Taiwanese woman who is married to
a Mr. Grimme.
(3) Michael S. Rosenwald, Christmas glimpses come in sad and sweet.
Washington Post, Dec. 26, 2009.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/25/AR2009122501929.html
My comment: The part about the deceased Taiwanese David Chen and his family
is at web page 3. Apparently Parklawn Memorial Park is a cemetery. There
were two photographs about them in the photo gallery.
(4) Susan Craton, Wishes for peace, healing; Third-graders inspired by book
to fold 1,000 paper cranes. Enterprise, Dec. 18, 2009.
http://www.somdnews.com/stories/12182009/entecov154343_32178.shtml
("'Teddy Chang, over there, is on his fifth," John [Voorhaar] said,
motioning to the other side of the cafeteria and a fellow student sitting in
front of a neat pile of completed cranes. * * * All the while, Teddy Chang
industriously churned out little paper cranes. He and his family moved to
the area from Taiwan last year and he came to Park Hall Elementary not
knowing any English. But he knew how to fold a crane. 'My sister [taught] me
,' he said.")
My comment: The Enterprise is a newspaper based in Lexington Park of
southern Maryland.
