My comment: "China has long sought the technology, pushing state-directed research in the field as early as the 1980s and deploying government scholars to US universities and companies during these decades in an effort to develop their own know-how."

Really? I thought it is easy to produce GMOs. I am a biologist, so I should know. The only obstacle I can think of for China is Chinese may lack confidence about GMOs produced by China.
