Americans! Some do not know when the nation was founded, not even the APPROXIMATE time range. This time around, some others do not know what the national anthem is (title or a single word of the lyrics). They told me "Of thee I sing" was the national anthem, or a verse of national anthem. Wrong.
(1) The lyrics of Of Thee I Sing (1931 song composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by his brother Ira Gershwin; in the musical of the same name):

But few Americans know this song.
(2) Rather, "Of thee I sing" is a verse in
My Country, 'Tis of Thee

You see, United States had no national anthem until 1931 when Congress passed a resolution designating The Star-Spangled Banner as THE national anthem.

The Star-Spangled Banner does NOT include "Of thee I sing."
