My comment:
(a) I am uncertain. I read today's WSJ already buy can not recall seeing this report. Is it actually for tomorrow's print?
(b) Flags of Our Fathers (film)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_Our_Fathers_(film)
(a 2006 American film directed by Clint Eastwood and based on the book of the same name about the Battle of Iwo Jima)
(c) The report states:

Yet another cable from the embassy, dated July last year, describes
the Standing Committee as being increasingly motivated by a desire to forge consensus and protect vested interests among its members and their families.
[ii] there was "no reform wing" within a leadership
[iii] policies, such as those on Taiwan and North Korea, had to be decided by the full 25-member Politburo

Philip Dorling and Richard Baker, Beazley pledged troops to help US in a war with China. Sydney Morning Herald, Dec. 8, 2010 (available now).
http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/beazley-pledged-troops-to-help-us-in-a-war-with-china-20101207-18obt.html

"Mr Beazley's remarks, made in a meeting in 2006 with the then US ambassador, Robert McCallum, just months before Kevin Rudd replaced him as Labor leader, are significant as no Australian federal political leader has ever disclosed what position they believed the nation should take if the US and China came to blows over Taiwan

"Mr Beazley was commenting on remarks in 2004 by Alexander Downer, then the foreign affairs minister in the Howard government * * * Mr Downer's comments, which he insisted were taken out of context, caused concern in Washington and prompted the then US ambassador, Tom Schieffer, to declare that America expected Australia's support in the event of conflict over Taiwan.

Note:
(a) Kim Beazley
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Beazley
(1948- ; Australian ambassador to US since Feb 2010)

He was Leader of the Opposition (Australian Labor Party), 1996-2001 and again Jan. 28, 2005-Dec. 4, 2006 (succeeded by Kevin Rudd) who went on to win the election and became prime minister.
(b) ANZUS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANZUS
(formation Sept. 1, 1951; The Australia, New Zealand, United States Security Treaty (ANZUS or ANZUS Treaty) is the military alliance which binds Australia and New Zealand and, separately, Australia and the United States to cooperate on defence matters in the Pacific Ocean area, though today the treaty is understood to relate to attacks in any area)
(c) time-worn (adj):
"1: worn or impaired by time <timeworn mansions>
2a : age-old, ancient <timeworn procedures>
b : hackneyed, stale <a timeworn joke>"

(d) The report says, "The confidential cable from the US embassy in Beijing last December quotes Graham Fletcher, the first assistant secretary for north Asia in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as saying Australia had stood up to Chinese pressure and forced its leaders to soften their approach in the latter part of the year."

Mr. Fletcher is an Australian offcial. The "its" refers to China.
(e) Two paragraphs down the "federal government" alludes to Australia, not US.
