Joel Klein, Education Must Move Center Stage in the Presidential Election. Washington Post, Mar 5, 2012 (op-ed)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/op ... QAPNXWrR_story.html
(New research [Harvard and OECD] shows that only one-quarter of America’s 52 million K-12 students perform on par with the average performance of the world’s five best school systems — which are now in Singapore, Hong Kong, Finland, Taiwan and South Korea")

My comment:
(a) Funny. We Taiwanese have felt all along that our education system is lousy.
(b) The "senator Rick Santorum called President Obama 'a snob' last month for wanting all Americans to attend college." paragraph 1 of the article. But he quickly retreated, saying the 'snob' comment was a mistake--because, he said, his wife called and urged him to say "snobbish" (a word with less edge).
(c) There is no need to read the rest of the article.
