Alex Frangos, Tom Orlik and Lingling Wei, In Reversal, Cash Leaks Out of China. Wall Street Journal, Oct 16, 2012 (front page)
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB ... 20272862374326.html

Quote:

"in the 12 months through September, about $225 billion flowed out of China, equivalent to about 3% of the nation's economic output last year.

"The Journal's $225 billion estimate for the year ended in September captures both legal capital outflow and some of the illicit flow. Several economists also have attempted to calculate outflow. Charles Dumas, an economist at Lombard Street Research, estimated net outflows of $300 billion over the same period.

My comment:
(a) Mr Orlik said this (but not as quantitatively) about a month ago, at a half page called Heard on the Street.
(b) Please view graphic before reading the text.
(c)
(i) catch basin (n): "US & Canadian) a pit in a drainage system in which matter that might otherwise block a sewer is collected so that it may periodically be removed"
Collins English Dictionary, undated
http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/catch-basin
(ii) For catch basin or catchbasin, see storm drain
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_drain
("Some of the heavier sediment and small objects may settle in a catchbasin, or sump, which lies immediately below the outlet, where water from the top of the catchbasin reservoir overflows into the sewer proper. The catchbasin serves much the same function as the "trap" in household wastewater plumbing in trapping objects")
