My comment:
(a) Unfortunately, Times of lOndon only allows subscribers to read online for free.
(b) Here is a preview (first 2 1/2 paragraphs) of the report:

The pitch in a "football pitch" is a noun that is defined as:
"(mainly British) (in many sports) the field of play"
Collins British English Dictionary

(c) The last paragraph of the BBC report translates the Times as saying, “一艘航母,一支能向海外运送大型军事装备的庞大运输机队,以及能够让军队在海岸登陆的大型登陆舰,这些都将促使中国当局制订目前尚未制订的相应对外政策。”
However, China is known to have difficulty with all sorts of engines. It is still importing from Russia engines for military transport aircraft.

("The recent massive naval mine clearing exercise in the mouth of the Persian Gulf (the Straits of Hormuz) demonstrated two things. First, mine clearing ships (which many nations have) and mine clearing helicopters (like the U.S. MH-53) were not as successful as hoped. A lot of the practice mines used were not found. Second, one new system, the SeaFox (a remotely controlled underwater system) was very successful")
