My comment: OmniVision is headquartered at
, with major officers from China (Mr. Shaw Hong, Chief Executive Officer,
President and Chairman of the Board; Mr. James He, Chief Operating Officer)
and two directors originally from Taiwan (Joseph Jeng and Andrew Wang).

ProMOS. IDG News Service, Nov. 5, 2009.

Quote:
"The deal between the two chip makers is important for the global PC
industry because PC makers have recently complained about a shortage of DDR3
chips.
"Gianfranco Lanci, CEO of Acer, the world's second-biggest PC vendor, said
last week that Acer could have shipped more PCs in the third quarter had it
been able to obtain enough components, including DDR3.
"'In terms of pricing, the only thing we see going up today is memory and
that's because of the move to DDR3 [from DDR2],' he said.
My comment:
(a) There is no need to read the rest of this IDG report.
(b) Elpida of Japan is competing against Micron of Idaho, US for the No. 3
berth in Dram industry (the top two are Samsung and Hynix, in that order and
both of S Korea).
(c) A spinoff of Infineon and ultimately Simemens, Qimonda of Germany, went
bankrupt early this year. "The [October, 2008] restructuring saw the sale of
Qimonda's interest in its largest 300 mm manufacturing site (Inotera,
Taiwan - a joint venture between Nanya Technology and Qimonda AG, with QAG
owning 35.6% at the time of sale) to its rival, Micron Technology, for
approximately $400m in cash."
Qimonda

Following that, the Dram industry of Taiwan is divided into Micron and
Elpida camps. Powerchip and Nanya are the largest and second largest Dram
makers in Taiwan, respectively--the former allied with Elpida and the latter, Micron.
(d) Taiwanese are easy to work with, for Japanese, Americans and Europeans.
