Note:

(1552 – 1615 [aged 63]; section 1.2 Expulsion; section 1.3 Death and legacy

section 1 Early life: "born to be the heir of TAKAYAMA Tomoteru 高山 友照, the lord of Sawa Castle 沢城 [no longer extant; was at 奈良県宇陀市榛原沢; so named because it was built on marshes] in the Yamato Province [大和国, which is where present-day 奈良県 is]. * * * His name as a child was Hikogorō (彦五郎). At the age of 12 in 1564, his father converted to Catholicism and Hikogorō was also baptized as Justo. * * * However, he is better known as Takayama Ukon (高山右近). The name Ukon comes from the government post he pretended, the officer of Ukonoefu (this was usual practice among samurai of the time).

(唐名は羽林; section 2.1 任官者一覧: 将監 [pronounced "shōgen"] )

* The conception of 近衛府 came from Tang dynasty of China. In Japan , there were, in addition, 中衛府 and 外衛府.

*  近衛府 was not a building or government agency, but officials (humans, that is) with various ranks, each (rank) with left and right positions. one of the rank was 将監.

*  In 高山 右近. his 右近 is truncated from 高山 右近将監 or 右近大輔. See 2人の等伯; 「絵師」と「武将」接点はあったのか 国際都市「堺」に育まれた群像. 北國新聞朝刊, June 11, 2002.
