"The San Diego-based company said Steve Mollenkopf, Qualcomm’s 44-year-old president and chief operating officer [since 2011], was chosen Thursday as its next chief executive and will assume the title in March. "Besides selling chips, nearly all handset makers pay Qualcomm a royalty for using its patents on communications technologies.
