David Nakamura, Top White House Adviser on Asia Policy Is Stepping Down. Washington Post, June 5, 2015.

My comment:
(a) I reluctantly post this, only because BBC has an alarmist report.

'知华' 顾问辞职 美中对抗或加剧. BBC Chinese, June 6, 2015.

(b) "Evan Medeiros, a China expert who has worked at the National Security Council during all of Obama's tenure, will step down as the agency's Asia director on Thursday, officials said. He will be replaced by Daniel Kritenbrink, the deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Beijing."

(c) "Medeiros served as the NSC's China director before taking over as Asia director when Danny Russel moved from the White House to become the assistant secretary of state for East Asia and Pacific affairs in 2013."

The other report on this topic, so far, is
Shannon Tiezzi, Obama Administration Loses Top Asia Advisor; Evan Medeiros, Asia chief on the National Security Council, stepped down on June 4. TheDiplomat.com, June 6, 2015

, which says
(i) the full title of "China director" in National Security Council (NSC) is "director of China, Taiwan and Mongolia affairs;"
(ii) In 2011 then NSC Asia director Jeffrey Bader quit and Russel took the post. In 2013, Russel left to become "assistant secretary of state for East Asia and Pacific affairs" to replace Kurt Campbell (2009-2013, whose tenure coincided with that of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. That is how Medeiros got the job of NSC Asia director (in 2013).

() Evan S Medeiros
(i) Before he joined NSC in 2009 (in the Obama administration, as NSC China director), Medeiros was "a senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation in the Washington, DC office. * * * He holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an M.Phil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge (where he was a Fulbright Scholar), an M.A. in China Studies from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), and a B.A. in analytic philosophy from Bates College in Lewiston, ME."
Council on Foreign Relations (CFR, which publishes the magazine Foreign Affairs)
(ii) "During 2000, he [Medeiros] is visiting fellow at the Institute of American Studies at the China Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing and a frequent lecturer at China’s Foreign Affairs College."

* China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU; 外交学院; 1955- ; in Beijing)
(iii) He is 44. Last year Bloomberg had a report (David J Lynch, Obama Faulted for Having Fewer Experts on China Policy. BusinessWeek, Nov 9, 2014) describing Medeiros as "the administration’s leading China hand."
