VOA Chinese, Jan. 27, 2010.

Note:
(1) Ms. Ping FU is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Geomagic
http://www.geomagic.com
(About Us: "Founded in 1997, Geomagic is a privately owned company, based in Research Triangle Park, NC, USA, with subsidiaries in Europe and Asia and distributors worldwide. Geomagic is a leading provider of 3D software for creating digital models of physical objects")

(2) There is an introduction of her, as well as other executives and directors of the board, in the company's web site, which points to the following.

(a) Her biography in the company's web site states in the last paragraph: "Coming straight to the US from a Chinese prison, Ms. Fu’s journey to entrepreneurship is a remarkable American dream by itself. She loves the US, is passionate about giving back, and is always optimistic about the future."

(b) Kathleen Schalch, Ping Fu: Recreating the World in All Its Dimensions. National Public Radio (NPR), Mar. 18, 2006.

My comment:
(i) Her life story is shocking.
(ii) Pikachu is "is one of the fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the Pokémon media franchise."

(3) Press Release: Guest List For The First Lady's Box At The 2010 State Of The Union. Office of the Press Secretary. The White HOuse, Jan. 27, 2010.

(4) 数字形状采样和处理  digital shape sampling and processing (DSSP)
(5) 美国国家超级电脑应用中心 National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Center_for_Supercomputing_Applications
(a state-federal partnership at Urbana, Illinois and affiliated with University of Illinois)

(6) I just found this piece, which is even shocking, thanks to the details.

John Brant, Entrepreneur of the Year: The Dimensions of Ping Fu: She came to this country by way of a Chinese prison, but that's the past, and the future holds a tantalizing promise of smarter, cheaper manufacturing and better, richer lives. Ping Fu says she wants to leave something of value. Well, why stop now? Inc. December 1, 2005.

My comment:
(a) To save your time, you may start from page three, the paragraph that begins with "In February 1981, without a trial or even a formal charge, the Chinese government locked 23-year-old Ping Fu in solitary confinement, in a wing of Nanjing prison reserved for political criminals."
(b) From this article, Ms. Fu apparently earned a bachelor's degree in China (journalism perhaps) and a second "baccalaureate" from University of New Mexico (English?) and a PhD (likely software) in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

(c) Inc. (magazine)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inc_Magazine
(Founded in 1979, the magazine was "purchased in 2005 by Morningstar founder, Joe Mansueto, and Inc. and its sister magazine Fast Company constitute the publishing arm of Mansueto Ventures.")
