Well, I checked just now and found the culprit:

Still, I have no idea where "平湖" in "祖籍浙江嘉兴平湖" (see the original
posting) comes from. A 1992 law in Taiwan abolished 祖籍 in the ID card (
where ID is short for "identification;" 身份證), replaced with 出生地. Prior
to that, most if not all Taiwanese immigrants from Chinese mainland were
clueless which village or town (levels below city or county, that is) their
parents had been from.
(2) As for naturalization of Mr. Jeremy Lin, that is a red herring.*

(a) 亚锦赛 or 亞洲籃球錦標賽 is "FIBA Asia" in English whose web site is

(b) International Basketball Federation (French: Fédération Internationale
de Basketball, thus the abbreviation FIBA) allows each "national member" (
the term is from its rule book) to acquire ONE naturalized player (out of
twelve) in a contest.
(c) NONETHELESS, Mr. Jeremy Lin need not be naturalized to represent Taiwan,
as the Taiwan law governing citizenship is grounded on bloodline rather
than place of birth.
