"Advanced Micro Devices Inc trimmed its revenue and gross margin estimates for the fiscal third quarter, in part citing manufacturing issues at a German factory that limited supply of the Llano chip.
"AMD--which makes semiconductors that serve as calculating engines in computers, serves and game consoles--now sees third-quarter revenue rising 4% to 6% on a sequential basis, compared with the prior outlook of 8% to 12% growth. The new range indicated revenue of between $1.63 billion to $1.66 billion.
"The company attributed the less-than-forecasted preliminary results on 32-nanometer yield, ramp and manufacturing issues at Globalfoundries in its Dresden, Germany factory. AMD said it continues to work closely with Globalfoundries--an AMD spinoff that has experienced delays in meeting shipment targets for a new class of chips--to improve the yield performance.
