My comment: Heed the last paragraph.

(2) Matt Jarzemsky, PC Shipment Record Rare Quarterly Decline. Wall Street Journal, Jan 12, 2012.

Quote:

""Industery researcher Gartner Inc said shipments of PCs dropped 1.4% to 92.2 million in the fourth quarter [year-on[year] * * * Another analyst group, International Data Corp, said the decline was 0.2% to 92.7 million

Overall ranking for the top five globally and in US did not change. "H-P shipments were hurt by confusion over its plans for the PC business, which it ultimately decided to keep, while Lenovo expanded its reach outside of China, where it dominates.

"H-P saw shipments plunge about 16% in the fourth quarter, according to both data trackers; meanwhile, Lenovo's shipments rose 23% according to Gartner and 37% by IDC. Lenovo was helped by aggressive pricing for business customers and consumers, IDC said.

My comment: There is no need to read the rest.

(3) Amir Efrati and Loretta Chao, Google Softens China Stance; Two years after censorship clash, company renews push to expand in world's biggest internet market. Wall Street Journal, Jan 12, 2012.

A photo and the following bold-faced text accompany the report: During Google's 2010 clash with the Chinese authorities, co-founder Sergey Brin, shown at left, said China's efforts to censor the Web and suppress dissidents reminded him of the 'totalitarianism' of the Soviet Union, where he was born. 'I find that personally quite troubling,' he added.

My comment: As an outsider, I do not know what shift Google has made, even after browsing the report.
