My comment:
(a) The VOA report misspells the last name of the inventor: it should be Dan Borislow, not "Broislow."
(b) I have never used Skype.
(c) I do not know. Magic Jack may not as convenient as a cell phone. The VOA report states a telephone is required (for dialing, talking into and hearing from; but no need to connect to a landline). Only phone calls within US, Canada and Puerto Rico is free; international calls (including between US and China, Hong Kong or Taiwan) cost $0.02 a minute. A customer will not receive a phone record (where one calls, for how long).


(3) Both Gartner and IDC declared on Oct. 14, 2009 that Acer leapfrogs Dell as world's second largest computer maker.

(a) Note:
(i) In the first and second quarters of this year, Gartner placed Acer third but, each quarter,  only 0.1% behind Dell in global market share (13.1 v. 13.0 for Q1; 13.6 v. 13.5 for Q2). However, IDC gave a larger gap, about 1- 2% behind.
(ii) Dell had been top ranked for years, until 2006 when Hewlett-Packard (HP) surpassed Dell to become the largest maker.

(b) A summary of the two latest reports is presented below, for units shipped not revenues. I choose not to show units, which nonetheless to calculate percentage change from the same quarter a year ago (the last column). In each pair of numbers, the first one is Gartner's, followed by a slash, and then by IDC's.
