Elaine Hou, AIT Director Touts 'Fruits' of Taiwan-US Partnership (Update). Central News Agency, July 3, 2013
http://focustaiwan.tw/news/aall/201307030025.aspx
("Just over 50 years ago, [AIT's Taipei director Christopher] Marut said, the [Taiwanese] farmer grafted samplings from Irwin mango trees grown in Florida to native Taiwanese mango trees")

My comment:
(a) Irwin (mango)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irwin_(mango)
(b) Generally speaking, Irwin/Irvin are Irish surnames, "of uncertain origin."
(c) OMG, what Taiwanese call 蘋果檨 (in Taiwanese pronunciation)--or occasionally, 愛文芒果--came from US!  Yes, this variety suddenly appeared in produce markets around Taiwan, but few if any among the public knew it was a transplant from US.
